Langley Law Firm is an Arizona AV rated insurance defense law firm. The firm began in October 2004 when its principals moved from active practice in California to Arizona. The firm consists of four attorneys, one paralegal and five support staff. Although a coverage, litigation and trial practice firm, its objective is to provide clients with aggressive, professional and efficient representation with an emphasis on early alternative dispute resolution, if appropriate.
Mr. Langley has been a coverage attorney and insurance defense litigator since 1973, having attained his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco Law School. He is actively licensed in Arizona and California and has tried in excess of eighty jury trials in federal and state courts including several first party bad faith, serious injury, wrongful death, professional liability, trademark infringement and punitive damages cases. His most recent defense jury trial in Arizona involved a tire tread separation rollover of a Ford Explorer which resulted in a successful unanimous defense verdict. Mr. Langley recently obtained a defense verdict in an insurance bad faith action in California which he co-tried with his partner, Kathleen Langley. He has diversified expertise in construction defect, property, fraud, arson and coverage matters including examinations under oath and appraisals. He is also a licensed civil engineer in the State of California.
Mr. Langley is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, American Bar Association, Arizona and California Bar Associations, Defense Research Institute, Northern California Association of Defense Counsel, Arizona Association of Defense Counsel, and the Maricopa County and Scottsdale Bar Associations. He has presented at various continuing education courses and seminars including the ABA and the Property Loss Research Bureau. In 2004 he was featured in Law Technology News regarding his successful defense of a brain injury jury trial in Santa Monica, California.
Ms. Langley is the managing partner for the firm and has been a litigator since 1982. She has handled several California state court jury trials to verdict involving wrongful death, catastrophic personal injury and dental malpractice claims, has co-tried several jury trials in Arizona with her partner and has handled hundreds of binding and non-binding ADR proceedings, including arbitrations and mediations. She handles a variety of cases, including personal injury, wrongful death and medical malpractice matters, particularly in the area of misdiagnosis and failure to diagnose melanoma. As managing partner, she supervises and mentors the firm's associate attorneys, paralegal and legal assistants and is responsible for teaching them trial practice skills. She has coached the firm's former and present associate attorneys in several Arizona jury trials to verdict.
Ms. Langley received her Juris Doctorate degree from San Francisco Law School in 1981 and is actively licensed in the States of Arizona and California. She is a member of the Arizona and California Bar Associations, Defense Research Institute, Maricopa County and Scottsdale Bar Associations and the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel. She is a trained mediator and co-taught mediation and negotiation courses at Stanford and Hastings Law Schools. She was a faculty member of the 2009 Arizona College of Trial Advocacy. Ms. Langley also has been a member of the Board of Directors for a Scottsdale community association and is currently on the Board of Directors for a charitable non-profit corporation dedicated to cancer research.
Mr. Long has been practicing law since 2001, formerly in Nevada, and has been with the firm since 2005 as an insurance defense litigator. His experience and areas of practice include medical malpractice, insurance coverage, personal injury, construction defect, insurance bad faith, uninsured and underinsured motorist claims, business litigation, minors' conservatorship matters and product liability cases. He has jury and non-jury trial experience in commercial, personal injury and medical malpractice cases.
Mr. Long received his Juris Doctorate degree from Wayne State University Law School and he is actively licensed to practice law in Nevada and Arizona. He is a member of the Arizona and Nevada State Bar Associations as well as the Scottsdale Bar Association and Arizona Association of Defense Counsel.
Ms. Ormond has been practicing law since 2006 and joined the firm in 2010 as an associate. She practices in the areas of insurance defense and commercial, intellectual property, and probate litigation. Ms. Ormond attended Arizona State University for her undergraduate studies and obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. She is admitted to practice in the State of Arizona and Federal Courts.
Ms. Ormond has successfully represented commercial clients and insurers. She has defended cases involving infringement, trade secrets, breach of contract, and complex defense litigation involving wrongful death, product liability, toxic torts, premises liability and bad faith. She has second-chaired two Arizona State Court trials for Langley Law Firm.
Ms. Ormond is also experienced in electronic trial presentation and the electronic management of case materials to provide a notable cost savings to the client.
Ms. Ormond is Immediate Past President and continuing board member of Arizona Women Lawyers Association. She is a member of DRI on the Commercial Litigation Committee and Chair of the Sports and Entertainment SLG. Ms. Ormond also presented at the 2013 DRI Annual Meeting. Ms. Ormond is also a member of the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel.
Ms. Dunlap is a certified paralegal and joined the firm in 2008. She earned her B.S. from Arizona State University in 1985 and received an ABA approved paralegal certificate in 1992 from Phoenix College. Her background includes in excess of 28 years of experience in transactional projects, insurance defense, personal injury, construction defect and commercial litigation. Ms. Dunlap has been with Langley Law Firm since 2008.
Carolyn Emson is originally from Vancouver, British Columbia and graduated from Capilano College with a Certificate of Specialty in Tort Law. Ms. Emson has been a Certified Legal Assistant for more than 34 years both in Canada and in the United States. She is a Notary Public in and for the County of Maricopa and has experience in the areas of personal injury, insurance bad faith, uninsured and underinsured motorist claims, business litigation, debt collection, Estates, minors' conservatorship matters and product liability cases. Ms. Emson has worked for a variety of large and small firms through her career and was the lead assistant at a number of those firms. Ms. Emson has been with Langley Law Firm since 2012.
Ms. Fox is originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to Arizona in 2001. Ms. Fox has been a legal assistant for over 19 years and has experience in the areas of personal injury, commercial litigation, construction defect, insurance defense and uninsured and underinsured motorist claims. Ms. Fox has been with Langley Law Firm since 2013.
Mr. Mason joined the firm in 2006 as a file and project clerk and legal assistant. He assists the attorneys, paralegals and legal assistants on case projects and maintains organization of the files. He is currently obtaining his certifications in nutrition and personal training. Mr. Mason has been with Langley Law Firm since 2006.
