History
Langley Law Firm is an Arizona AV rated* law firm located in Scottsdale. The firm
began in October 2004 when its principals moved from active law practice in California to Arizona. The firm consists of four attorneys and five support staff. Though we are litigation and trial practice attorneys, our objective is to provide clients with aggressive, professional and efficient representation with an emphasis on early alternative dispute resolution, if appropriate.
Larry D. Langley
Mr. Langley has been a coverage attorney and insurance defense litigator since 1973, having attained his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Francisco Law School. He is actively licensed in Arizona and California and has tried over 70 jury trials in federal and state courts, including several first party bad faith, serious injury, wrongful death, professional liability and punitive damages cases.
Mr. Langley's most recent trial in Arizona involved a false light invasion of privacy and intentional interference of business relationships case. He has diversified expertise in construction defect, property, fraud, arson and insurance coverage matters, including examinations under oath and appraisals, as well as in estate planning and probate litigation. He is also a licensed civil engineer in the State of California.
Mr. Langley is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the American Bar Association, the Arizona and California Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, the Northern California Association of Defense Counsel, the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel and the Maricopa County and Scottsdale Bar Associations. He has presented at various continuing education courses and seminars including the ABA and the Property Loss Research Bureau. In 2004 he was featured in Law Technology News regarding his successful defense verdict in a brain injury trial in Santa Monica, California. Mr. Langley has recently been named as a member to the Damages Research Institute (DRI) Trial Tactics Steering Committee.
Kathleen M. Langley
Ms. Langley is the managing partner for the firm and has been a litigator since 1982. She has handled several California state court jury trials to verdict involving wrongful death, catastrophic personal injury and dental malpractice claims, has co-tried several jury trials in Arizona and has handled hundreds of binding ADR proceedings, including arbitrations and mediations. She handles a variety of cases, including personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice matters in the area of misdiagnosis and failure to diagnose melanoma, and children's claims against school districts for failure to report child abuse. As managing partner, she supervises and mentors the firm's associate attorneys and paralegals and is responsible for teaching them trial practice skills. She has coached the firm's former and present associate attorneys in several Arizona jury trials to verdict.
Ms. Langley received her Juris Doctorate degree from San Francisco Law School in 1981 and is actively licensed in the States of Arizona and California. She is a member of the Arizona and California Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, the Maricopa County and Scottsdale Bar Associations and the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel. She is a trained mediator and co-taught mediation and negotiation courses at Stanford and Hastings Law Schools. She was a faculty member of the 2009 Arizona College of Trial Advocacy. Ms. Langley is also a member of the Board of Directors for a Scottsdale community association, an Advisory Board Member of a charitable non-profit corporation dedicated to cancer research and is a former Advisory Board Member of a non-profit corporation dedicated to the resolution of child abuse. Ms. Langley is co-authoring a paper for medical publication with a renowned surgical oncologist on the legal consequences of melanoma misdiagnosis. Mrs. Langley was also recently named as a member to the Damages Research Institute (DRI) Trial Tactics Steering Committee.
Steven T. Long
Mr. Long has practiced law since 2001, formerly in Nevada, and has been with the firm since 2005 as an associate and a litigator. He has experience in the areas of medical malpractice, insurance coverage, personal injury, insurance bad faith, uninsured and underinsured motorist claims, business litigation, minors' conservatorship matters and product liability cases. He has jury and non-jury trial experience in commercial, personal injury and medical malpractice cases.
Mr. Long received his Juris Doctorate degree from Wayne State University Law School and he is actively licensed to practice law in Arizona and Nevada.
Jill J. Ormond
Ms. Ormond has been practicing law since 2006 and joined the firm in 2010 as an associate. She practices in the areas of insurance defense, personal injury, civil litigation, business litigation, medical malpractice, products liability, intellectual property and entertainment law. Ms. Ormond went to Arizona State University for her undergraduate studies and obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. She is admitted to practice in the Arizona state and federal courts. Prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Ormond owned a production company and brings this practical business experience to her law practice.
Ms. Ormond is a member of the Arizona Women Lawyer's Association, Arizona Association of Defense Counsel, and a board member for Arizona Production Association which promotes the film industry in Arizona. She is a founding board member of the Purple Ribbon Council, a non-profit for domestic violence awareness programs.
